If you aren’t constantly mindful of the gap, it will continue to prevent you from moving forward.  The gap could be what is preventing you from enjoying the blessings that God has for you.  It is the gap between His ways and our ways and His thoughts and our thoughts.  “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways And My thoughts than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:9).

What exactly does it mean “His Ways?”  It means His road, path, journey, direction.  How beneficial would it be to travel the same road, head in the same direction as God?  Proverbs 3:6 tells us we need to acknowledge Him in our journey to start closing the gap.  To acknowledge means to know Him by experience, to be instructed by Him.  That is what keeps us headed in the same direction.  We can go our way or His way.  It’s a decision we make.  We have to decide whose way is better.  Chances are, if I am not seeking and asking for direction from God, I am probably not headed in the same direction and therefore widening the gap.  I wonder what kind of message I send God when I don’t ask?  What might be the consequences of not asking and increasing the gap?

Then there is that other little problem, thoughts.  We could also use the word “plans” here.  Either way I think the gap becomes evident immediately.  Would God find it comfortable to think like I do?  Would the world be better off if God thought the way I think?  If God followed my plan, would He have to change His plan?  That is a lot of food for thought, right?”

Recently I took a beach trip and some of my girlfriends joined me.  They asked me for directions.  Why?  Because there were a number of ways to get to the destination but some were better than others.  Since I had made the trip successfully multiple times they wanted to know my path.  It was so simple to determine how I got there.  All they had to do was ask.  Just that simple with God.  Ask.  He is or should be our most trusted source on direction and He goes so far as to tell us in His Word, “ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.  Same holds true for our thoughts.  I shared some of my thoughts with my friends and asked them their thoughts.  They were willing to give me feedback simply because I asked.  God goes so far as to clue us in on His thoughts by telling us what we need to be thinking.  “So keep your thoughts continually fixed on all that is authentic and real, honorable and admirable, beautiful and respectful, pure and holy, merciful and kind.  And fasten your thoughts on every glorious work of God praising him always (Philippians 4:8).”  When I compare my thoughts to His, I believe I could benefit from His thoughts replacing mine.  I think others around me would benefit from that change in my thought life.  How about you?

our way and thoughts

And narrow that gap.
